Pawkar Raymi - Peguche 2024

Pawkar Raymi is an emblematic Indigenous festival celebrated in Ecuador’s Otavalo region, marking the beginning of the agricultural year and the arrival of spring. This celebration encompasses cultural ceremonies, traditional sporting competitions and vibrant musical performances that bring together Kichwa/Runa communities from across the region. Tens of thousands of people attend the events.

Recognised as part of Ecuador's intangible cultural heritage, Pawkar Raymi represents an essential expression of Kichwa/Runa Indigenous identity, one in which the youth played a central role. We contributed to documenting and livestreaming the Pawkar Raymi Peguche 2024 festivities, helping to share this important cultural celebration with wider audiences and supporting the community’s efforts to maintain their cultural practices for future generations.
